REMEMBRANCE DAY 11TH NOVEMBER 2012

Good Morning to you,

Today is Remembrance Sunday.

Today is the day, when we take time to remember all the brave men and women who have lost their lives, in conflicts past and present.

DO NOT STAND
AT MY GRAVE AND WEEP

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

Mary Elizabeth Frye
1932

Each wooden cross is planted by a family member or friend, in a Field of Remembrance. The cross  carries a personal message to someone who lost their life in the Service of their country.

Services of Remembrance will be held around the country.

Wreaths will be laid in rememberance of the fallen .

Our hearts are with you,
You will never be forgotten.

Daphne

  3. just come back from a Sunday morning walk, as the sun was shining again & I needed cheering up. We then passed through a very small village & saw a remembrance tribute, outside of the tiny church doing exactly the same thing, in the heart of rural France remembering those who had given their lives for all of us. If only everyone could do this everyday of their lives. Lovely post Daphne. I knew that verse but not the author. I've copied it I hope you don't mind.
Nice thoughts from me... Barbara x

    1. Good Afternoon Amy, We are so indebted to the heroic men and women who gave us the freedoms we enjoy today. When I read the poem it breaks my heart to think of those who lost their lives. Katherine Jenkins sang the words so very beautifully. Have a lovely day today Amy. Best Wishes Daphne

    1. Good Afternoon Yvonne, Thank you so much for your kind words. I really do feel we have to stop and remember the fallen, who lost their lives to enable us to enjoy the freedoms we have today. I attended a parade in my own town yesterday. The "old soldiers" some who were in their 80th year, marched with so much pride, it made my own heart swell with pride to watch them. Have a lovely day, Best Wishes Daphne

  10. WE all do need to remember our service people. I lost it Sunday at church when they played a video, Had to run to the bathroom. My father and uncle were in the service and I remember well growing up without them and I only had a few short years with them after they retired before they passed away.

We have such brave men and women serving our country.

    1. Good Morning Tammy, When I typed the poem, "Do not Stand at my Grave and Weep", then heard Kathryn Jenkins singing, my heart gave way and I had tears running down my face. I come from a service family aswell, so both you and I know the real cost of conflict. The effect it has on the men and women serving, the wives and children and parents. We must always remember the reason we have our freedom....we must never forget. Best Wishes Daphne

    1. Good Morning Daniela, Thank you. I feel it is so important to mark Remembrance Day. When my husband attended the parade in our town, he said there were men aged 80 years and more, proudly marching alongside younger men. He listened to their stories and was humbled. As I said before....we must never forget why we are free today and we must never take it for granted. Best Wishes Daphne

  12. Hi Daphne, a beautiful and moving post. We spent the day with my BIL who flew helicopters in Vietnam. My Joe wrote to him every single day he was in that war. It was important those brothers saw each other today. Thanks so much for visiting with me, Olive

    1. Good Morning Olive, It's very kind of you to say so. The contact your husband had with his brother during the Vietnam war would have helped him through those long days.... and it is because of brave men like your brother in law that we have our freedom, and for that we thank him. Best Wishes Daphne
